About the event
JAYE JAYLE, the beloved local outfit fronted by longtime pillar of Louisville's underground EVAN PATTERSON (Young Widows, Old Baby) perform subtly dark, cerebral, often intense folk and electronic-infused rock music in the vein of Nick Cave, Angels of Light, and PJ Harvey. The band features members of Shipping News, The Phantom Family Halo, Jane, and others. They are joined at Decca by (the debut *duo* performance of) local experimental electronic outfit ROADHOUSE (Davis/Marlowe of Tropical Trash, et al).
"Evan Patterson has always been a wanderer and an explorer. It’s evident in the constant evolution of his musical projects since his earliest days as a guitarist in left-of-center bands out of Louisville, but it’s best exemplified by the constant creative shifts within the fever-dream blues of his current project Jaye Jayle. Their sophomore album No Trails and Other Unholy Paths was a mission statement of that restless search across barren canvases, a proclamation of turning away from one’s past and marching into the unknown. But with the latest Jaye Jayle album Prisyn, Patterson takes his boldest leap into unknown territories yet."
"Southern Indiana producer/instrumentalist "Roadhouse" weaves a tapestry of home recording workouts with a wide palate of approaches, ranging intuitively from miswired bedroom funk to flash-fried downer prog, paranoid acid-house, low-budget tape beats, brain damaged modern electro, Soviet x-ray soundtracks and subtly enchanting digital-acoustic confusion. The records play like a slow spin of the rotary dial through extra-terrestrial AM/FM radioscapes, uncharted but not entirely uninhabitable. The live performances are an improvised re-rendering of those and other sonic spaces."
